The incident took place at Lalbandi-Janki Nagar border in Mohoba village under Sonebarsha police station of the district. The injured have been taken for treatment. Notably, this occurred during the ongoing border dispute between Indian and Nepal which has been continuing for last couple of months. As per reports, the deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Vikesh Yadav and the injured are Uday Thakur and Umesh Ram who are admitted to a private hospital in Sitamarhi, which is around 85 kilometers from Bihar’s capital Patna.
As per reports, officials told that the locals had a confrontation with the APF over accessing an area near the international border and later, a scuffle took place between the two sides resulting in the firing. It was also learned that the Nepal cops claimed that they opened fire after locals have tried to snatch their weapons. Earlier on May 17, Nepal police had fired blank rounds to disperse dozens of Indians trying to cross the border. Nepal had closed its international borders on March 22 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
