New Delhi: Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir is all impressed by Nicholas Pooran and seems to be very hopeful about his performance in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
Indian cricketers like Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya also started off as youngsters for Mumbai Indians and then made it to the Indian cricket team. IPL has proved to be a fantastic platform for international cricketers like Andre Russell and Sunil Naraine for they acquired quite a success from it in their career.
Gambhir, had been very sceptical in choosing his teammates and he always believed to provide enough chances to the youngsters. While he named certain cricketers to watch out for in IPL 2020, he looked very hopeful for a promising, dynamic left-handed batsman youngster Nicholas Pooran, who will be playing for Kings XI Punjab this year.
“For me, Nicholas Pooran is the young player I would like to watch in this IPL. We talk about AB de Villiers as a 360-degree player but Nicholas Pooran has all types of shots. He can play the reverse sweep, normal sweep and is capable of being the big shots,” said Gautam Gambhir on a discussion with Star Sports.
“So, such a player, when he plays under a coach like Anil Kumble, I have full confidence that Anil Kumble will be able to extract the best out of him. A great coach, who had won Mumbai Indians the title, I would want to see what he can do with the Kings XI,” he added.
Gautam Gambhir is so impressed with Pooran that he mentioned his name and AB deVilliers in the same sentence but backed the Westies cricketer to play all kinds of shots around the field. Not only Gambhir, Chris Gayle also has praises Pooran and considered him as the next big thing.
