Kolkata: If you are a Kolkata Metro commuter, it will be easier for you to travel by Metro in the coming week as the authorities have done away with the E-Pass system from Monday, January 18.
Sources in the Kolkata Metro revealed that from January 18, passengers having smartcard can straightaway walk in without having to show the digital E-Pass to the cops at the door.
Earlier 228 trains used to run daily but with the lifting of restrictions, Kolkata Metro will now run 240 trains on a daily basis.
However, tokens are not being introduced as of now. According to the officials, the use of token could increase the chances of the spread of COVID-19 virus.
Until now, E-Pass were needed for travel from 9 am to 11 pm and from 5 pm to 7 pm. E-pass was introduced to avoid the crowd of office goers during the Pandemic time.
But with situation improving, the Metro authorities are giving up the use of e-pass during even during office hours.
