Mumbai: A special NIA court remanded assistant police inspector Sachin Waze in police custody for 12 days on Sunday, a day after his late-night arrest in connection with the parking of an explosive-laden Scorpio near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence in south Mumbai on February 25.
Amidst tight security, Waze, dressed in jeans and a white shirt, was produced before the court after lunch.
All three gates of the sessions court premises near Oval Maidan were shut for the media—orders from the judge, said the police.
It was learnt that in its remand plea, the NIA submitted witness statements to show Waze’s involvement in the case. The NIA said Waze was a part of a big conspiracy involving many others and there was strong circumstantial evidence against him.
It said there were many things with which Waze had to be confronted, for which it required his custodial interrogation.
His arrest had become imminent after a Thane sessions court on Saturday rejected his interim bail application saying that prima facie there was material evidence against him in the case of murder, destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy and custodial interrogation was necessary in the case.
