Los Angeles: Despite the COVID-19 pandemic the glamorous Oscar award ceremony of the film industry took place with full aplomb and show on April 25. The celebrities joined in from two locations in Los Angeles as they got together to celebrate and honour the brightest stars of the year gone by.
The Oscars ceremony, unlike the other years, was held on Monday morning, with no host, no audience, nor face masks for nominees attending the 93rd Academy Award.
Chloé Zhao won the Best Director, making her the first woman of colour, and the second woman ever, to win the award. Nomadland also won the Best Picture award, as well as Best Actress for Frances McDormand. Anthony Hopkins, surprisingly, won the Best Actor award for The Father, pipping the late Chadwick Boseman.
The diversity of the nominees’ list itself has created a history this year. But the winners who finally got to walk away with the coveted golden trophies also managed to replicate the nomination list to some degree.
