Kolkata: Memories of last year’s deadly Cyclone Amphan are still fresh and again another Cyclone, Yaas is round the corner.

Last year Amphan caused heavy damage to the various club tents on the Maidan and several groundsmen’s lives (who stay in the tents) were at risk.

To avert such a situation, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has come forward to stand by their side. In anticipation of Yaas, CAB president Avishek Dalmiya has made arrangements for lodging and food for all the groundsmen on the Maidan.

From Tuesday, May 25, CAB arranged the stay for the groundsmen of different clubs at the iconic Eden Gardens. Makeshift shelters have been made underneath the galleries of Eden Gardens. The arrangements have been made till Thursday, May 27.

Not only lodging, CAB has also taken the responsibility of arranging food for them. The CAB has issued an official release in this regard on Monday.

“Groundsmen form an integral part of our system and we must ensure their safety in this our of crisis. We are also working in coordination with other Sports Associations so that the facilities at Eden Gardens could be extended to their personnel too who are located at Maidan Tents,” CAB president, Avishek Dalmiya was quoted as saying in the release.
