2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers: Chhetri Brace Keeps India’s Hopes Alive

Doha: India beat Bangladesh 2-0 riding a brace from captain Sunil Chhetri in the dyeing moments in their Group E match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in Doha on Monday.

Two gaols from Sunil Chhetri came on the 89th minute and injury time.

With this win, Igor Stimac’s men not only ended their 11-match winless streak, but this is also their first victory in the World Cup qualifiers since November 2015.

India managed several chances early on, on the back of efforts from Chhetri and Brandon. The victory took India to third place with six points, one point ahead of fourth-placed Afghanistan. Bangladesh languish winless at the bottom of the six-team leaderboard with two points.

India will next take on minnows Afghanistan on June 15.
