Mumbai: North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un astonishingly looked slimmer and thinner last weekend after emerging from his latest long absence. But it may be the Kim Jong-un’s Swiss timepiece providing clearest evidence that he’s been watching his weight.
Kim’s ever-present IWC Schaffhausen Portofino looked fastened tighter around his wrist in the latest snaps made public by state media, according to an analysis published by NK News on Tuesday.
The news site based out of Seoul made comparison of close-ups of the $12,000 watch from past months to back observations that Kim, 37, had trimmed down a lot.
Spy agencies has been tracking the North Korean leader’s weight for clues regarding the stability of his autocratic and secretive rein, especially since he has a family history of heart disease.
Lawmakers were told by South Korea’s spy agency in November that Kim weighed around 140 kilograms (309 pounds) and had gained some 50 kilograms since 2011.
“Foreign intelligence agencies want to know is Kim Jong Un healthy enough to remain the leader for a long amount of time,” senior analytic correspondent for NK News Colin Zwirko said.
“What’s going on behind the scenes, if he’s unhealthy? And how does that affect security in the region given North Korea has nuclear weapons,” Zwirko was quoted as saying by Bloomberg.
