Kolkata: Nineteen-year-old Ritika Karmakar, the talented national rifle shooter, is fighting for life after being diagnosed with cancer. Ritika is currently undergoing treatment at the Tata Medical Centre in Kolkata.
Doctors have informed that Ritika immediately needs a bone marrow transplant, for which the estimated cost is Rs 30 lakh. Left with no option, Ritika’s mother Sumana Karmakar has appealed to everyone for financial assistance.

Ritika had been training at Olympian Joydeep Karmakar’s shooting academy since 2015. A smiling, vivacious girl, who always wants to stay positive. she has also won medals in state-level tournaments and school games.
Preparations were underway for the national meet. Suddenly, in November last year, before the start of the meet, Durganagar girl Ritika fell ill. Convulsions, with fever with shivering, at a time when dengue was a common infection in Kolkata.
But Ritika wasn’t infected with dengue. On further investigations, Ritika was diagnosed with cancer. She recovered a lot after undergoing treatment in hospital and started practising again.
