Melbourne: India sensation Sania Mirza and her American partner Rajeev Ram moved into the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles event of 2022 Australian Open on Sunday. The duo beat Australia’s Ellen Perez and Matwe Middelkoop of the Netherlands in the last 16 match.
Mirza-Ram prevailed over the Aussie-Dutch combination in their second-round match 7(8)-6(6), 6-4, which took one hour and 27 minutes.
Sania Mirza and Rajeev Ram will take on the winners of the match between Australian wild card pairs Samantha Stosur-Matthew Ebden and Jaimee Fourlis-Jason Kubler in the quarters.
Interestingly, both Sania Mirza and Rajeev Ram have won the Australian Open mixed doubles title in the past with different partners. Sania Mirza took the Grand Slam home in 2009 with Mahesh Bhupathi while Ram won the 2019 and 2021 with Barbora Krejcikova.
