Guwahati: The age-old contentious issue of the implementation of the Assam Accord seems to finally heading in the right direction. The Assam Government and AASU will soon form a panel to mull ways to put the clauses into action in a meeting held here.
“In the presence of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, we had a long discussion with the leaders of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU). In the meeting, it was decided to form a committee comprising members of AASU and government to implement the clauses of Assam Accord,” said state minister Atul Bora as quoted by ANI.
AASU’s chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya added, “After 16 yers, we had this meeting and it was decided to form a committee consisting of 3 Cabinet ministers of Assam and 5 members from AASU to find out road map within three months. We discussed the implementation of all clauses of Assam Accord.”
