Mumbai: Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput has reportedly committed suicide at his Bandra home on Sunday (June 14) due to depression. The actor was living alone during the lockdown and was found hanging. The post-mortem report confirmed that death was caused due to hanging. No suicide note was found. His last rites were performed on Monday (June 15) in Mumbai.
According to police, there were four persons at Sushant’s house at the time of the incident – two cooks, one maid and an art designer friend of his. It has been learned the Sushant had his refreshments in the morning, went back to his room and didn’t come out for a long time. They tried knocking the door, but when he didn’t respond, that’s when they called a locksmith. Opening the door they found Sushant hanging from the ceiling. They even called a doctor and then came the police.
Sushant was also undergoing treatment for depression for some sort of mental illness he was going through at a city hospital for the last six months. The police also informed that Sushant had called an actor friend last night but his call went unanswered.
Lakshmi Devi, the caretaker of Sushant’s Patna residence said that the actor had called his father a few days ago and said that he will come to Patna and will take him for a walk on the hill somewhere. “But he did not come, instead the news of his death came,” she said. A huge crowd has gathered at Sushant’s Patna residence, condition of the actor’s father Krishna Kumar Singh has deteriorated and he is not in a position to speak.
Earlier, Sushant’s ex-manager, Disha Salian committed suicide by jumping off a building in Mumbai on June 8. Disha jumped off the 14th floor of a building in Malad. She was rushed to a hospital in Borivali where she was declared dead.
Sushant started his career with television serials. His debut show was Star Plus’s romantic drama ‘Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil’ (2008), followed by an award-winning performance in Zee TV’s popular soap opera ‘Pavitra Rishta’ (2009–11).
He made his Bollywood debut in the buddy drama Kai Po Che! (2013) for which he received a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut, before starring in the romantic comedy Shuddh Desi Romance (2013) and as the titular detective in the action thriller Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015).
His highest-grossing releases came with a supporting role in the satire PK (2014), followed by the titular role in the sports biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016). For his performance in the latter, he received his first nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. Sushant went on to star in the commercially successful films Kedarnath (2018) and Chhichhore (2019).
