Bardhaman: An Adivasi woman, went out to attend to nature’s call, was dragged into a paddy field and allegedly raped by three men in West Bengal’s Purba Bardhaman district, according to the police said on Wednesday.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), Dhruba Das, said that a woman was also there with the three men and she helped them in committing the crime on Tuesday night.
The incident took place at Sakra village under Nadanghat police station area when the woman went out of her home to relieve herself at around 10.30 pm.
While returning, she was stopped by four persons including a woman holding a sharp weapon at her neck, dragging her to a paddy field where the three men took turns to rape her while the woman accompanying them helped, said the victim.
Fortunately, she managed to run away and hid in the paddy field. She returned home after the accused left and informed her family about the incident.
One of the three accused men, also an Adivasi, was arrested. He said all the four had their faces covered with “gamcha” during the rape.
The victim has been admitted to Kalna Superspeciality Hospital on Wednesday morning.
Search is in process to get hold of the other accused, said the ASP.
