New Delhi: The Delhi transport department has asked all vehicle owners in the state to get high security registration plate (HSRP) affixed on their vehicles “without any delay”.
The notice warns people to get HSRP for their vehicles and failing it will attract penalty under the Central Motor Vehicles act.
Though, this rule has been in effect since last year, but the state governments have not strictly enforced it because of several reasons, including the unavailability of HSRP.
Now, the Delhi transport department’s decision has let to a spike in demand of high security numberplates in the capital.
What are HSRPs?
High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) is a type of tamper-proof vehicle registration plate specification defined by the Government of India.
These are hologram plates made with a laser-branded permanent identification number, which cannot be copied.
How to upgrade registration plates?
Contact vehicle dealers authorised by the government. The lists are available on the state transport departments’ website. Or, one may book an appointment with the chosen dealer.
