Chandigarh: The war of words between the Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu’s camps seems to exacerbate with Sidhu’s adviser Mohd. Mustafa calling the former Punjab CM a traitor adding his target was the Gandhi family.
Soon after resigning as Punjab CM, Singh launched a scathing attack on Sidhu, the Punjab Congress chief on the latter’s alleged Pakistan links. However, in a stern rebuttal, Mustafa retorted, “Navjot Sidhu is not a traitor. If after now Capt Amarinder Singh calls Sidhu a traitor, then I will open the whole book. Captain’s target is not Sidhu but the Gandhi family. I’ll not allow him to target the Gandhi family”
Elaborating that had he been in a postion of power, he would have got rid of Singh in thirty days, Mustafa told ANI, “Amarinder Singh has been humiliating Punjab for the last 5 years. The people in this party have been tolerating him for the last 4.5 years. If I was the leader of the party, then I would have removed Captain from the party in 30 days.”
Singh under pressure from the party High Command quit as CM but put the onus on the party for humiliating him. He also said that Sidhu was highly incompetent and he would oppose his elevation as the CM tooth and nail. The hunt for the new CM is on and contrary to reports, Sukhjinder Randhawa and not Sunil Jakhar could take over as the chief minister.
Meanwhile, the BJP has waded into Singh’s verbal assault on Sidhu and urged the Congress top brass to take a serious note of Singh’s allegations on Sidhu over the latter’s proximity with Pakistan PM Imran Khan and Army Chief Qamar Bajwa.
“Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has called his party’s state chief Navjot Singh Sindhu anti-national. This is a very serious allegation. BJP is asking only one question to Congress that why Sonia, Rahul & Priyanka are silent on this?” said BJP leader Prakash Javadekar.
