Mumbai: The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which was currently investigating the explosive-laden SUV that was found near industralist Mukesh Ambani’s residence last month, has now come up with another lead where they have seized a Black Mercedes-Benz which was reportedly driven by the now arrested police officer Sachin Waze. After the car was seized, the anti-terror squad was called in and an amount of Rs.5lakhs, a note counting machine, some clothes and the license plate of the SUV were recovered from the car.
Senior NIA officer Anil Shukla said, “NIA today seized a black Mercedes-Benz car. We have recovered the number plate that was on the Scorpio car, over ₹ 5 Lakh in cash, a note-counting machine and some clothes. Sachin Waze used to drive this car, the ownership of the car is under investigation.” Officials stated that they also found a check shirt and a kerosene filled plastic bottle. As per sources and CCTV footage, it was found that a PPE clad man, was also wearing a check shirt. Investigators now assume that the kerosene was used to burn the PPE kit.
Back on February 25, an explosives-laden abandoned SUV was found near the Antilia. It contained a threat note directed towards Mukhesh Ambani and his wife, Nita Ambani. The car was then traced to a Thane-based automobile parts dealer, Mansukh Hiran, who had earlier filed a stolen report for the car with the police back on February 17th. Hiran’s dead body was found near a creek in Mumbai on 5th March. His wife has alleged that Waze had a hand in her husband’s death and that he had used the car for four months and returned it on February 5.
No longer after the NIA took over the case from the Mumbai Anti-terrorism squad, Sachin Waze was arrested and taken into custody for his role in placing the car near the Ambani residence. It was reported that Waze had seized his apartment’s CCTV footage and deleted it. Waze’s office, computers, phones, tablets and laptops were searched.
The ruling party in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena has criticized the Central Government for handing over the case to the NIA, where the Mumbai police and the Anti-Terrorism squad was capable enough of handling it. They stated that this action by the Centre, has demoralized the local law enforcement.
Uddhav Thackeray told the media, “Sachin Waze is not Osama Bin Laden. It is not right to target a person and hang him and then investigate.” He concluded by saying that the ones responsible for this act, will not be spared. The BJP on the other hand has turned this scenario into a political debate, where they have accused the Maharashtra Chief Minister of protecting Sachin Waze due to the fact of him being a former Shiv Sena member.
