Mumbai: Two boys — Aryaveer Chirag Pittie and Om Hemdev — of American School of Bombay (ASB) have won 2022 Outplay Action chess Tournament titles in their respective age groups in Dubai recently. The tournament was held between February 24 and 26.
Aryaveer, a student of the first standard, scored an incredible 8 points out of a possible 11 to win the Under-8 crown. The seven-and-half-year-old frequently takes part in the chess tournaments held across the globe.
“Aryaveer is a passionate chess player and has an impressive memory and aptitude to become one of the best chess players in the world,” his coach Nagesh Guttula told The Lateralz.
The kid will next represent Mumbai in the Reputed Under-8 Maharashtra State Chess Championships 2022 in Pune.
Fourteen-year-old Class IX student Om Hemdev notched up the top honours in the U-15 category in the prestigious Outplay Chess Action meet.
He emerged the best in the U-15 category after winning 12 points in the championship. En route to his top-place finish, he got the better of several seasoned players from Dubai.
Om is also a regular in the global chess tournaments having won several titles. He is currently preparing for the International Rating chess Tournaments circuit in Europe scheduled in June-July.
