Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Amirul Islam, and Jakir Hossain took oath today after geting elected as MLAs at the state Assembly. The oath of office and secrecy was administered to them by state Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Banerjee won the Bhabanipur byelection by a resounding margin of over 58,000 votes beating her nearest rival Priyanka Tibrewal of BJP.
The swearing in ceremony was preceded by a tussle between the state government and the Governor over who would administer the oath – Speaker or Governor.
Meanwhile, Sabyasachi Dutta’s return to TMC is just a matter of formality with Banerjee having given her green signal. Dutta had defected to BJP before the Assembly polls.
