Kolkata: Three policemen have been suspended on charges of gross negligence in the mysterious death of Aliah University student Anis Khan. But Anis’ father Saleem Khan is far from being satisfied with the move.

According to him, those who have been suspended today may be taken to another police station tomorrow. Saleem Khan is still hellbent on demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.

“We have all the respect and faith for Didi (Mamata Banerjee) but no faith in SIT as this team is formed by the cops of the state who were responsible for the death of my son. Nothing less than a CBI probe will satisfy us,” Saleem Khan told ABP Ananda television channel.

According to sources, ASI Nirmal Das of Amta Police Station, Constable Jitendra Hembrum have been suspended and Home Guard Kashinath Bera has been dismissed from the service. They have also been accused of abusing the deceased’s family.

The cops’ punishment was announced by the West Bengal Police on Tuesday morning. Sources said that action was taken on the basis of the allegation of negligence of duty levelled against the cops by Anis’ family and few leaked phone calls purportedly between the cops and the deceased’s family.

The head of the seat, ADG CID Gyanwant Singh has summoned the Officer-in-Charge and second officer of the Amta police station at Bhabani Bhavan on Tuesday.

However, three days have passed since the mysterious death of student leader Anis Khan and culprits are still roaming free as no arrests have been made so far.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee formed a SIT for the probe on Monday. The members of SIT went to Amta police station on Monday night and checked the duty roster of the police personnel on the day of the incident and spoke to the police officers.

Students Federation of India (SFI) and Democratic Youth Front of India (DYFI) activists blocked the Bankura-Durgapur state road in Barajora for 20 minutes on Tuesday morning in protest of the incident.

Students of various colleges also hit the streets of Kolkata creating a huge ruckus and blocking the roads. They demanded the immediate arrests of the culprits.
