Kolkata: Trinamool Congress Birbhum district president Anubrata Mandal dodged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) grilling for the fifth time and got himself admitted to the state-owned SSKM Hospital instead, following a health check-up.
After skipping the Nizam Palace appointment, Mondal’s lawyer Anirban Guhathakurta and Sanjeev Daan visited CBI office later on Wednesday and submitted a letter from the leader seeking another four-week time to appear before the central investigating agency.
However, it is not yet clear whether the Mondal’s wish will be granted by the CBI. According to Nizam Palace sources, the CBI will now discuss the matter with the legal team and then make the final decision.
Earlier in the morning, when it looked all set for the heavyweight Trinamool leader to appear at the Nizam Palace, his car suddenly diverted its way and drove into the SSKM’s Woodburn Block in a dramatic turn of events.
It may be recalled that after avoiding CBI summons four times earlier, Mondal had reached his Chinar Park residence in the city travelling from Birbhum on Tuesday.
