New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tendered an apology to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and informed her about his decision to not run for the party president’s post. He took the “moral responsibility” for the revolt in Rajasthan.
According to the Congress, Sonia Gandhi will take a call “in a day or two” whether Gehlot will continue as the chief minister of Rajasthan. “That decision (Rajasthan chief minister) will be taken by the Congress president in a day or two,” Congress leader KC Venugopal was quoted as saying to reporters. Earlier, Ashok Gehlot had said he has left it to Sonia Gandhi.
As of now, the fight is between Digvijaya Singh and Shashi Tharoor in the October 17 election. Both are expected to file their nominations on Friday.
Digvijaya Singh called on Shashi Tharoor following the former’s announcement to contest. “I welcome his candidacy for the Presidency of our Party. We both agreed that ours is not a battle between rivals but a friendly contest among colleagues. All we both want is that whoever prevails, Congress will win!” Tharoor tweeted while sharing a photo of the two leaders hugging each other.
