New Delhi: The Centre on Tuesday released a standard protocol for the management of COVID-19 symptoms through ayurveda and yoga.

The National Clinical Management Protocol, released by the Union health ministry and the Ayush Ministry is aimed at bringing uniformity in the management of the deadly virus through traditional methods, the government said in a statement.

“Experience from Covid-19 response activities as reported from different parts of the country have shown that ayurveda and yoga can play a pivotal role to augment the standard preventive measures for Covid-19,” the official statement said.

The protocol suggests remedies to manage COVID-19 symptoms like sore throat, fatigue, breathlessness, hypoxia, fever, headache, etc.

Some of the herbs and mixtures recommended in the protocol are ashwagandha, chyawanprash, nagaradi kashaya, sitopaladi churna, vyoshadi vati, etc.

All the recommended medicines and herbs are to be taken as prescribed by the ayurvedic practictoner.

The protocol also includes a yoga routine that ayush practitioners can prescribe to their patients to help build their immunity and improve respiratory functions.

“No matter the personal faith or belief, everyone believes in ayurveda,” Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said.

Harsh Vardhan said that the protocol has been designed after clinical studies and in sync with the ICMR and CSIR.

“Clinical studies have established some ayurveda interventions like ashwagandha, laung and giloy as an anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and immunity-modulating which help protect against Covid-19,” he said.
