Kolkata: Former Union minister Babul Supriyo stunned all by shifting loyalty from BJP to TMC on Saturday, but the state saffron party leaders refused to read too much into this defection.
“Yes, Babul Supriyo should have told BJP before leaving the party. His exit is not a loss for BJP. He is not a mass leader and not a good political organiser. However, personally, he is my good friend,” said Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Suvendu Adhikari to reporters.
However, Adhikari’s party colleague and BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya minced no words launching a scathing attack on the Asansol MP. “Babul Supriyo works for a short time. He played football for a short time, worked at a bank for a short time, was a singer for a short while, and was with BJP for a short while. Let’s see how long he can stay with the Trinamool Congress,” Bhattacharya was quoted by India Today.
Bhattacharya also smelt a rat on the timing of Supriyo’s exit to TMC just before the Bhabanipur bypoll slated on September 30.
Supriyo joined TMC on Saturday in the presence of TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien.
