Kolkata: Two school students of Baguiati were abducted and their bodies were found in the morgue of Basirhat district hospital on Tuesday morning. The incident created huge tension in Baguiati and the role of the police were questioned by the victims’ families.

Police have already arrested four people in this incident. However, the main accused Satyendra Chowdhury is on the run and a search is going on for him.

It was August 22, two students — Atanu Dey and Abhishek Naskar —residents of Arjunpur, went missing from their homes. After that, a message came to their family asking for a ransom of Rs 1 crore. The family of the two students lodged a complaint with the Baguiati police station. But allegedly, the police did not help in any way to find the kidnapped students.

On Monday night, the police informed that the bodies of two missing students — Atanu Dey and Abhishek Naskar —were found in the morgue of Basirhat district hospital. Family members of the two students identified their bodies on Tuesday. The angry families of the two students and local residents protested at the accused’s house.

It is learnt that the body of one of the two students was recovered on August 23, and the other on August 25. Since then, the two bodies have been lying in the morgue of Basirhat hospital, but the question arises why it took so long for the police to locate them.

It is known that Atanu gave Rs 50000 to Satyendra Chowdhury to buy a bike. Later Satyendra demanded more money, which Atanu refused to pay. Then on August 22, Satyendra Chowdhury called Atanu and Abhishek, lured them on the pretext of buying the bike and allegedly murdered them.

The police claimed that the two students were killed soon after. On August 24, Atanu’s father Biswanath De lodged a police complaint of kidnapping at Baguiati police station. Since then, Biswanath Dey’s phone started receiving messages asking for a ransom of Rs 1 crore.
