Kolkata: Indian Football Association (IFA) governing body member Aditya Dalmiya was attacked near the Behala Chowrasta here on Monday morning.

Aditya is the son of BJP leader Baishali Dalmiya and the only grandson of renowned cricket administrator late Jagmohan Dalmiya. Aditya is also the nephew of current Cricket Association Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya.

Allegedly, a group of miscreants beat him up severely in broad daylight. “My son was brutally beaten up by a group of miscreants. There was also bleeding. One of the miscreants even took off his shirt and wrapped it around my son’s neck. Later I came to know that glass also got pierced into the boy’s stomach. I have lodged a complaint with Behala Police Station. However, I do not know who they were,” Aditya’s mother Baishali was quoted as saying by Bengali television channel ABP Ananda.

According to an eyewitness, a man identified as Parijat Laha was driving towards a private hospital along with his wife, son and aunt on board via the EM bypass around 10.30 am on Monday. Aditya Dalmia’s car, hailing from the opposite direction, collided with Laha’s car en route to James Long Sarani from Behala Chowrasta.

The argument between the two sides began which led to the assault. It is alleged that Aditya was not only beaten up badly, but the attempt could have killed him. Aditya was seen with bruises in pictures released later.

However, it is not yet clear how several miscreants got involved in the incident. They shattered the looking glass and wiper of Aditya’s car.

Meanwhile, state opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari has trained guns at the ruling Trinamool Congress after Aditya was harassed. Adhikari tweeted pictures of Aditya’s injuries.

Baishali Dalmia, who switched allegiance to the BJP from the TMC just before the assembly elections, has only mentioned ‘miscreants’ and didn’t talk about TMC.
