Tokyo Olympics: Bajrang Shines, But Indian Women Disappoint In Hockey, Yet We Are Hopeful

Kolkata: Our greed can never be satiated. At the ongoing Tokyo Olympics as Team India tries to recover from the initial abyss, we as fans can’t control our excitement. Here we go! Wrestler Bajrang Punia (pic above) has kept hope alive for a medal coming from behind to beat Iran’s Morteza Ghiasi and is now set to grapple Haji Aliyev from Azerbaijan in the semis.

However, our women’s hockey team disappointed giving in to Great Britain in the all-important match for the bronze medal. The Rani Rampal-led side gave their all even leading at one point but couldn’t get the better of GBR. They couldn’t do a la men’s side which bagged bronze. For India, Gurjit Kaur scored twice and Vandana Katariya once but that wasn’t just enough to triumph over the British girls. But there is a ray of light at the end of the tunnel as Golfer Aditi Ashok holds the 2nd spot after round 3. She can bag an unexpected medal if she succeeds in maintaining the momentum.

However, in wrestling it is the end of road for Indian women as Seema Bisla bowed out in round 1 of the 50 kg freestyle event. But we are in no mood to throw our hands in despair.
