Kolkata: Burrabazar Yuwak Sabha (BBYS) launched an 8-lane sophisticated shooting range at the club premises on Thursday. This was announced at a press conference at the Calcutta Sports Journalists’ Club (CSJC) on Thursday evening.
Located at the central part of the metropolis, the organisation cater to sports enthusiasts from various disciplines at the sporting facility. Olympic shooter Joydeep Karmakar was given the onus of nurturing the budding talent of the city at the BYS range.
Karmakar, who already runs Joydeep Karmakar Shooting Academy, looked excited at the prospect of another world-class shooting arrangement coming up in the city. “It may happen that a national or international shooter comes up from the BYS range in the future. BBYS holds a special place in my heart as I represented this club in my first-ever state championship and won a bronze,” Karmakar told the media on Thursday.
Karmakar, who finished fourth in the 50metre Rifle Prone event at 2012 London Olympics, hoped that shooters like Mehuli Ghosh and others will now have another option of using BBYS facilities to prepare themselves for bigger national/international competition.
Besides Karmakar, the media briefing was attended by silver medallist in the 10-metre air rifle event at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics Mehuli and the BBYS officials.
