Kolkata: The BJP faced debacles in elections thanks to the Hindi-speaking non-Bengali leaders spearheading the challenge for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the last assembly elections in West Bengal.

To counter that the BJP leaders in Bengal now want the central leadership to appoint someone who understands the language and is fluent in Bengali as an observer for the party. Sunil Deodhar is the first choice of the leaders of Muralidhar Sen Lane.

It may be recalled that Kailash Vijayavargiya has been working in Bengal as the BJP’s central observer for so long, who faced criticism from former BJP president Tathagata Roy. There have also been postering against him in different places including Kolkata.

In this situation, the responsibility of Bengal was handed over to Amit Malviya. Malviya, the head of the BJP’s IT cell at the national level, is in the good books of the central leadership.

However, sources in the party said that differences are being created within the party over his appointment and complaints have also been lodged with the central leadership. It is learnt that leaders in Bengal want someone like Deodhar to spearhead the challenge till 2026.
