Patna: The Congress Party is going to field former Lok Sabha member, Shatrughan Sinha’s son Luv Sinha as a party nominee from one of its assembly seats at Patna.

A source closed to the actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha on Wednesday said, “Luv Sinha is likely to be the Congress candidate from Bankipore Assembly seat in Patna. A formal announcement will be made shortly,” was quoted as saying by Deccan Herald.

The Bankipore Assembly seat emerged in 2009 when delimitation exercise was carried out. Luv will be standing against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee Nitin Navin who has been winning the elections since the last decade.

Luv along with his twin Kush was born in 1983 also appeared in his lesser-known debut film in Bollywood called Sadiyaan. He was also seen in JP Dutta’s Paltan, but the movie was not able to make big in the box-office.

The 37-year-old actor will be the third member of the Sinha family to join the field of Indian politics.

His father, Shatrughan Sinha was a Member of Parliament (MP) from BJP for four terms (two times Rajya Sabha member and twice as Lok Sabha MP from Patna Sahib). He joined the Congress Party during the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.

However, he lost the 2019 Lok Sabha polls while contesting from the Congress side from his home ground. His wife Poonam Sinha also contested the 2019 elections from Lucknow as a candidate from Samajwadi Party (SP) against BJP’s Rajnath Singh and eventually lost the battle.

The source said, “Luv had campaigned for his father during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Besides, he keeps coming to Shatrughan’s ancestral house in Kadam Kuan,” while responding to a question about how an ‘outsider’ was been air-dropped from Mumbai to Patna.
