Mumbai: Two days after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) made the norms for sealing of buildings in the city stringent once again, civic data shows that the number of sealed buildings stands at 1,305. As on February 18, the number of sealed buildings was 321.
Civic officials pointed out that earlier, only data of completely sealed buildings was being maintained with positive cases in the city being on the decline. However, now, even those with floors that are sealed are being recorded owing to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
Off the 1,305 building, T Ward (Mulund) is seen having the maximum numbers of sealed buildings and floors i.e. 233, followed by N Ward (Ghatkopar) and P South (Goregaon) having 125 sealed buildings/floors.
A civic official said that the rise in numbers was owing to the data of sealed floors also which they have once again started maintaining.
“Cases were on a decline and we were only sealing floors and hence the data was not reflecting. Now, it has been decided to seal the entire building once again,” said the official.
Another official pointed that earlier, there had to be 10 positive cases in a building to get it sealed but now, even if there are five cases the building, it should be sealed.
Meanwhile, the BMC’s action against those not wearing face masks is yet to gather steam.
