Mumbai: The Bombay High Court ordered Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik on Monday to file an affidavit replying to a defamation suit filed by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai zonal director Sameer Wankhede’s father Dhyandev Wankhede.

Justice Madhav Jamdar-headed vacation bench asked the minister to file his affidavit by Tuesday and posted the matter for further hearing on Wednesday.

“You (Nawab Malik) file your reply by tomorrow. If you can reply on Twitter, you can reply here also,” said Justice Jamdar. The justice however didn’t pass any order to restrain Malik from issuing any further statement against the plaintiff (Dhyandev Wankhede).

“Just this morning, the defendant has posted a tweet about Sameer Wankhede’s sister-in-law,” Advocate Arshad Shaikh, appearing for Dhyandev Wankhede, argued.

The lawyer added that at least till the matter is heard, the court should either order Mr Malik or he should himself restrain from making any further statements.
