Huelva: India shuttler Kidambi Srikanth went down 15-21, 20-22 to Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in the men’s singles final of the BWF World Championships here in Spain on Sunday.
Srikanth now is the first Indian man to take home a silver medal from the championships, with the previous best by an Indian man is a bronze medal won thrice by Prakash Padukone in 1983, HS Prannoy in 2019 and Lakshya Sen in 2021.
Srikanth went into a 9-3 lead in the first game during the summit clash on Sunday, but Loh fought back to take the game 21-15. The second game saw a thrilling contest between the two before Loh notched up a 22-20 victory.
The 28-year-old Srikanth reached the final after beating compatriot Lakshya Sen in the semi-finals on Saturday. Lakshya, however, finished with a bronze medal.
