Kolkata: A division bench of the Calcutta High Court headed by Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava dismissed the Trinamool Congress Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal’s plea for protection and gave a green signal to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to summon him.
According to the court, Anubrata has to appear before the CBI. Therefore, the CBI has started its homework to interrogate the TMC Leader in Cattle Smuggling Case.
Possible questions that may be asked to him are — how did these cows get smuggled across the border from multiple districts including Birbhum-Bankura? Since he has political prestige in Birbhum, did he get any news? If he had known about the cattle smuggling, would he have reported it to the state police as a responsible political leader?
If he didn’t tell the police, why didn’t he file a complaint? Why did the police not take any action?
It may be recalled that the CBI has already summoned him four times for questioning but Anubrata has been repeatedly avoiding appearing for illness on the pretext of illness. He even went to court seeking a reprieve. He was initially granted bail by the court but was later a single bench of the Calcutta High Court dismissed it. He challenged the order in the division bench.
