Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Trinamool Congress Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal in connection with a cattle smuggling case from his Bolpur residence on Thursday morning.
The CBI team arrive at the Trinamool leader’s Bolpur home along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel to arrest him. He was arrested following his lawyers’ statement that he needed at least two weeks to appear for the agency’s questioning.
It was on Wednesday, the CBI sent a report to its headquarters and explained how Anubrata Mondal sought more time to face interrogation after not ignoring summons for a 10th time regarding the cattle smuggling case.
As the investigators reached Mondal’s Bolpur house on Thursday morning, the CBI sleuths surrounded the property first before moving in, according to sources. The Trinamool leader, who is also a local strongman, had plenty of security. All the doors of his house were locked from inside, sources revealed.
Eventually, the CBI arrested him for non-cooperation with the investigation into the cattle smuggling case. Mondal will be brought to the state capital Kolkata.
