Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) summoned Birbhum district Trinamool president Anubrata Mandal to the Nizam Palace for questioning in the cattle smuggling probe on Wednesday.
Mondal has been avoiding appearing before the CBI more than once and the Trinamool leader approached the Calcutta High Court to avoid cross-examination by the Central intelligence agency.
But the High Court refused to give him protection As a result, all eyes are on whether Mondal will come to the CBI office at Nizam Palace here on Wednesday. According to CBI sources, an official had a meeting with top officials at the CBI headquarters in Delhi on Tuesday to formulate strategy before questioning.
CBI official and Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) attended the meeting via video conference from here.
The CBI sources said several instructions were given to the official from Delhi. The central agency is preparing a questionnaire for Mondal on the basis of the evidence and witness statements obtained so far in the probe into the cattle smuggling case.
It is learnt that Mondal’s lawyer and bodyguard visited the Nizam Palace to meet the CBI officials on the eve of big day.
