Kolkata: Having avoided appearing four times earlier on various pretexts, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Trinamool Congress Birbhum president Anubrata Mondal for the fifth time on Wednesday, April 6.
The central probing agency directed the TMC leader to present himself before them at the Nizam Palace on Wednesday. However, no response was received from the leader concerned.
It may be recalled that Mondal recently approached the Calcutta High Court to avoid questioning by the central agency in the cattle smuggling case. But both the single and division benches of the High Court trashed Mondal’s plea.
According to the High Court, decks were cleared for CBI to interrogate Mondal in the case. Now it remains to be seen what steps the TMC leader takes. According to CBI sources, a questionnaire has already been prepared for Mondal for questioning.
