Charanjit Singh Channi Is No Dalit, But Converted Christian Involved In Conversion, States Anonymous Note: True Or False? India Seeks Answer

Kolkata: We tried our utmost to check the veracity of the allegations (read below) on newly-appointed first Dalit CM of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi, but our queries met with a deafening silence. But the anonymous note (we are in possession of) that makes some incendiary observations on Channi leaves us shocked and baffled and rest assured, they can open a Pandora’s Box.

Please do not get us wrong, we would hate to buy such barbs directed at a person of eminence, but questions cross our minds!

Let’s come to the point without beating about the bush. According to the facts shared, Channi is “not a Dalit but a converted Christian who runs the biggest Christian conversion racket in Punjab. His wife runs the whole thing of conversion. Her NGO receives funds in big ways and many including the Gandhi family knows about this.”

The so-called expose also goes on to add that Channi is a well-known womaniser in Punjab and has links with Guru Ram Rahim of Dera Sacha Sauda who is currently incarcerated after being convicted in a murder case.

It is also alleged that after Ram Rahim was put behind the bars, it was Channi who took it upon himself to convert Dalit Hindus to Christianity.

It is a well-known fact that Channi sparked a row for allegedly sending inappropriate messages to a female IAS officer which earned him a reprimand from the then CM Amarinder Singh. His reported philandering earned him brickbats during the #metoomovement which also finds mention in the list of allegations heaped on the Aam Aadmi CM of the state.

All this while, we had been waiting to ascertain the source of this note that is doing the rounds. We tried to get in touch with some politicians in Punjab but to no avail.

It is pertinent to mention that we have no ulterior motive – all that we seek is a thorough probe into these serious charges levelled on a chief minister of a state.

Any malicious attempt to denigrate a person of Channi’s stature should be confronted. But at the same time, if the charges are proven to be true, then stringent action awaits the guilty.

We at The Lateralz do not believe in creating a sensation for mileage. Strictly adhering to journalistic ethics, we would appeal to the Congress party not to throw these charges out of the window but vouch for transparency. Every law-abiding citizen of the country deserves to be in the know-how and not kept in the dark.

We reiterate, there is no personal grudge against anybody, all we wish is that honesty prevails. In this age of rampant fake news, casting aspersions on an individual is a common practice, but a line has to be drawn. Yet, we believe there is no smoke without fire, so it is imperative to seriously look into the ‘slurs (if at all they are) cast on Channi’s face’ and eliminate all discrepancies.

People resorting to spreading fabricated stories should be punished, but suppression of facts is no lesser a sin. Let there be light!

We are inquisitive!
