Raipur: In what could be called unprecedented perhaps, Nand Kumar Baghel, father of Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, was arrested and sent to 15 days of judicial custody on Tuesday. The senior Baghel was arrested on charges of allegedly inciting communal tension with his statement, “Brahmins are foreigners should be boycotted in the country.”
The complaint was lodged against the 86-year old by Sarv Brahmin Samaj. The chief minister had earlier said that nobody was above the law.
“Every person is equal before my government. Everyone knows about my ideological differences with my father. Our political thoughts and beliefs are different. I honour him as his son but as a CM I cannot forgive him for such statements which disturb public order,” he said in a statement.
