Chhattisgarh & Punjab: Headache Galore For Congress

Kolkata: Dark clouds are levitating as the Congress party paralysed by factional consternation, gasps to nip the ruckus in the bud. Read on…

Sene 1: Congress general secretary in Punjab, Harish Rawat is keen on relinquishing his responsibilities to shift his energy to the Uttarkhand polls

Scene 2: Punjab Congress chief, the forever motormouth Navjot Singh Sidhu is on the verge of crying revolt if not allowed to express himself

Scene 3: In Chhattisgarh, the tug of war over the CM’s chair between incumbent Bhupesh Baghel and his health minister TS Singh Deo is maligning the party’s image

Yes, the Grand Old Party is limping to handle intra-party squabbles – an ominous sign of a cataclysm that could be the party’s Achilles’ Heel.

Personal ambitions are becoming a catalyst to directly take on colleagues without gauging the ramifications. Be it in Punjab or Chhattisgarh or Rajasthan, washing dirty linen in public turns out to be a convention much to the chagrin of the grassroot workers.

Baghel who met Rahul Gandhi (pic above) in New Delhi today has renounced any rotation policy for the CM’s post. “PL Punia (party in-charge in the state) has already clarified this, I don’t need to say anything further. I have told my leader whatever I wanted to,” Baghel was quoted by ANI.

On the contrary, Deo who has been more or less explicit on his chief ministerial ambitions, finds no fault in being a dreamer. Baghel has invited Rahul to visit the state, which he has accepted. But will that be enough? Lust for recognition can once again be an anathema to the party’s prospects.

Sidhu is sulking and sulking clamorously. The ignominy of having had to remove one of his advisers for his alleged inflammatory statement on Jammu & Kashmir is too bitter a pill to swallow. And an open threat today is an indication of a scenario that would only get murkier with time.

Chief Minister Amarinder Singh must be revelling at the blatant refusal of the party high command to gyrate to Sidhu’s whims and fancies, yet looking at the larger picture – a broken family finds it tedious to conquer the pinnacle in electoral politics.

The coming few days would be extremely climacteric – even an iota of gullibility while stemming the rot can turn the tables. It’s high time, the Congress leadership pulled up its socks.

The Mamata Banerjees, Sharad Pawars, Arvind Kejriwals and others are keeping a close watch! And so are the Gujarati brothers!

Message conveyed? And we have not even dwelled on the dismay of party soldiers in Karnataka, West Bengal, Assam and ……the list is long!
