Washington DC: US President Joe Biden is hopeful that China would conceive of an amicable arrangement with the Taliban after the insurgent group grasped control over the strife-torn nation.
When asked whether the militant group would be financed by China, Biden told reporters on Tuesday, “China has a real problem with the Taliban. So they’re going to try to work out some arrangement with the Taliban, I’m sure. As does Pakistan, as does Russia, as does Iran. They’re all trying to figure out what do they do now.” China hasn’t yet given official recognition to the Taliban but has been involved in active parleys to help them out in every possible way.
Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had earlier intimated US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on August 29 that the international community should be in talks with the Taliban and “positively guide” them.
The Taliban on Tuesday announced the formation of a government that includes hardliners and some proscribed terrorists.
