Chitrakoot: A Dalit girl, 15, gang-raped by three men, ended her life by hanging herself in Chitrakoot of Uttar Pradesh, said officials.
Chitrakoot Superintendent of Police (SP), Ankit Mittal, said the 15-year-old girl hanged herself on Tuesday in her house in the Manikpur.
After the girl committed suicide, her family members complained that she was raped by three men in a forest on October 8.
On the basis of the victim’s family’s complaint, a former village head’s son Kishan Upadhyay and two others, Ashish and Satish, were arrested under the sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, said Mittal.
The girl ended her life as her complaint was not registered, denied by the police, alleged the family.
The SP said the post-mortem did not prove rape and the samples would be sent to a Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL).
The girl was cremated on Wednesday in the village.
The victim’s father informed that the accused left her with her hands and legs tied after the rape. The police took her home but did not lodge an FIR.
