Kolkata: The British Council, has announced the re-opening of its Teaching Centres in Kolkata for adult learners. With British Council’s learners transitioning back to physical classrooms, they will be able to avail the advantages of a dynamic and interactive learning environment that will enable collaborative thinking and provide them with the right opportunities to participate and build social skills.

As the education sector grappled with challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, British Council was finding new and innovative ways to satisfy learners’ needs across the country.

The transition to online classes and remote working – for students and professionals respectively – resulted in an increasing number of individuals looking to improve their English communication skills, as well as acquire other 21st century skills necessary in a digital-first world.

Speaking on the re-opening of the English Learning Centre, Antonius Raghubansie, Director of Learning Services, British Council India, said, “The past 18 months have been an adjustment for both, the teachers as well as the learners. We know that our learners have missed attending classes in-person. We have gathered regular feedback from our students who felt comfortable to return to our classrooms once again, and to that end, we are implementing strict health and safety protocols in our premises to make our classrooms a safe space for learning. We look forward to welcoming learners back to our centres, as do our teachers, who have been teaching online for the last 18 months.”

Designed to cater to the specific needs of learners, British Council has launched two diverse courses – myClass and Skills for IELTS. Both courses will be delivered in-person only, at the British Council’s English Learning Centre, by highly qualified teachers. The myClass course will be available in the three options – ‘Everyday English’, ‘Workplace English’ and ‘Spoken English’. Each myClass lesson has been designed to not just improve English language but also critical thinking skills for a wide range of situations.

Skills for IELTS, on the other hand, is a specialised preparatory course designed to maximise chances of success on test day for individuals planning to pursue higher education and work in English-speaking countries. With this course, learners will work on the necessary skills, such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing, to ace the IELTS exam.
