Kolkata: West Bengal’s Halisahar witnessed a tornado formation, while bracing for severe cyclone Yaas, on Tuesday. Footage captured during heavy rain showed a tornado m spinning from the cloud and forming the characteristic conical formation while reaching towards the ground.
Due to the strong winds, the debris soon began to rise and also spun alongside. Lightning was also visible.
As many as 40 houses have been damaged with 4-5 people sustaining minor injuries. Two people were electrocuted in Pandua.
However, over 11 lakh people have been rescued so far by the state administration.
“There was a tornado in Halishahar. 40 houses were damaged. 4-5 people were injured. A tornado occurred in Chunchura. 40 houses were damaged. Two people were electrocuted in Pandua. 1.1 million people have been rescued so far. Be careful until tomorrow is over. Don’t worry about the damage. We’re by your side. The landfall is due tomorrow afternoon,” Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday.
