Kolkata: He was not the typical fast bowler who would try to intimidate batters by indulging in verbal duels. But a glare or two would be scary enough to convey his message. Hit him out of the park, frustrations would show on his face and the next time you got to gear up for that sharp inswinger that could topple the stumps. That’s legendary South African bowler Dale Steyn for you. The man who represented South Africa in 93 Tests, 125 ODIs and 47 T20 Internationals, has finally called it a day – end of an era as one of the all-time greats bids adieu to international cricket. Steyn dropped the exit bomb on Twitter.

Quite expectedly, his friends, colleagues and opponents have showered him with laurels truly deserved. Be it VVS Laxman or AB de Villiers or Virender Sehwag or Pat Cummins, reverence for the man with 439, 196 and 64 victims in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively, touches our heart. Here’s a look:

One of the greatest. One of the fiercest. One bowler for whom conditions never applied. Home-Away. Asia-Australia. A bowler for all seasons. A bowler for all reasons. Dale Steyn, you legend. Go well in the second innings. 🙌 #DaleSteyn pic.twitter.com/YPMIC9Hm6e
