Kolkata: Deepika Padukone is one actor who has time and again proved her supremacy with her acting prowess. The finesse in her performances has stood her apart from the rest.

Every actor has that one film which opens new vistas in the future. For Deepika, it has to be Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal co-starring Saif Ali Khan that remains etched in our memories. The superhit film completes 12 years today and quite justifiably, Deepika has taken a trip down memory lane.

Meera remains one of her most adorable characters and the manner in which she essayed it deserved bouquets.

Speaking about the film, Deepika shares, “I can’t believe it’s been 12 years since Love Aaj Kal already!Meera, I believe, was simply beautiful; inside out. A character many related to at the time. Just reminiscing about all those months we spent filming in Delhi and London, brings a smile to my face.”

Love Aaj Kal laid the foundation of a career that has featured a plethora of movies which catapulted Deepika to the status of a superstar in the true sense of the term-films like Ram-Leela, Padmaavat, Piku and Chhapak have taken her career to unprecedented heights. She is one of those actresses in the history of Indian cinema who can run a film on their own shoulders without riding piggyback on a male star’s charisma.

Honestly speaking, Love Aaj Kal goes down the annals of history as a film that was a bit ahead of its time yet managed to rake in the moolah at the box office. A statement on modern-day relationships, Deepika proved what it takes to be dare to be different.

Kudos to Deepika and her journey to the zenith. Made on a budget of Rs 56 crore, the film amassed close to Rs 70 crore at the domestic box office. The film also had a sequel or should we call it a remake in 2020, starring Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan (helmed by Ali), which however tanked at the box office

Needless to say, the earlier version remains indomitable.
