Kolkata: It’s Didi vs Modi in Bhabanipur today. Yes, the results of the bypoll will reflect on West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s national standing as she gears up to throw her hat in the rings with an eye on the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. And the ‘sincerity’ of the TMC supremo during the campaign trail is a vindication of her larger interests. As of now, around 35 per cent voters’ turnout have taken place in the high-voltage contest.
Voting has already begun and allegations of disturbances are trooping in from her BJP rival Priyanka Tibrewal. “Madan Mitra (TMC MLA) has purposely shut the voting machine here as he wants to capture the booth,” Tibrewal was quoted by ANI.
Voting began at 7 am and will be over around 6.30 in the evenings. Apart from, Banerjee and Tibrewal, CPI (M)’s Srijib Biswas is also in the fray among the top contenders in the running.
Apart from Bhabanipur, bypolls are also being held in Shamshergunj and Jangipur in the state today.
Will Didi pull it off to enter the Assembly as an MLA-CM? Hopefully being her own turf, she should romp home but you never know…and in case of the latter, her greater ambitions might face roadblocks.
