Die-Hard Hindus Are Silent On Desecration Of Hindu Idols In Bangladesh, But Why?

Kolkata: Hindus and anything to do with Hinduism are being desecrated in Bangladesh. Idols are vandalised, temples looted and Islamic fundamentalists are running havoc at the drop of a hat. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has promised to take stern action against the perpetrators of such heinous acts, we accept.

But if you look at the larger picture, why are our so-called espousers of the cause of Hinduism back in India maintaining a dignified silence over the ruckus taking place across the border? This shocking realisation stems out of the fact that had it happened across India’s westerns borders, it would have drawn a furore unprecedented. Even an iota of consternation vis-a-vis rampant violation of Hindu religious places in Pakistan leads to a berserk reaction back in India.

But when it comes to Bangladesh, this diplomatic silence stirs a row and leads to a plethora of questions which makes us ponder over. To take it in the true perspective, India led by Narendra Modi cannot afford to antagonise Bangladesh. It is one of the few Islamic countries which have stood solid by New Delhi’s side and this gives India enough reasons not to go overboard on protesting the abject atrocities inflicted on Hindu sects in Bangladesh.

Secondly, it’s BJP’s innate indifference towards anything Bengali that must have triggered this apathy. Now, putting aside the pro-Hindutva fronts, what about the so-called liberals who are hardly airing their grievances against such frequent acts of vandalisation? Why are they feigning ignorance?

This hypocrisy is unbearable! A partisan approach towards countries stemming out of vested interests should be crucified as it smacks of baffling inferences. This selective approach even on the part of anti-BJP leaders including the Mamata Banerjees who leave no stone unturned to take up cudgels against minorities in India does not deliver the message as expected. Maybe the mango diplomacy has a stellar role to play but what about those souls who find themselves on the wrong end for no fault of theirs?

Will the real liberals stand up and take a stance or will they continue to play their cards close to their chests?

If the latter, it is despicable and condemnable but the irony is, hidden agendas overpower true ideologies much to the chagrin of champions of truth and noble causes!

Call it vote-bank politics or sheer silence not to ruffle feathers, let’s put it straight – duplicity it is, and one wonders why.
