Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik after questioning in connection with a money laundering case connected with the activities of the Mumbai underworld, fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and his aides.
NDTV sources said Malik was quizzed over alleged transactions with gangster Dawood’s associates and land deals with the gangster’s aides. He was reportedly evasive and didn’t cooperate with the investigation, said the ED.
“We will fight and win, and expose everyone,” he was quoted as saying as he stepped out of the probe agency’s office. He was then whisked away in a vehicle for a medical check-up by ED officials.
The ED had of late carried out multiple raids and took custody of Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Kaskar in the same case. According to sources, few pieces of evidence connected to property bought by Nawab Malik has come to the fore during the ongoing probe.
While Malik was being interrogated, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) workers staged a protest near the party’s headquarters, in close proximity of the ED office in south Mumbai.
They shouted slogans and slammed the BJP-led central government and the investigating agency. “The protest is against the unjust questioning of Nawab Malik as he was exposing the BJP+NCB+CBI+ED nexus on a daily basis. We will not be cowed down. NCP will keep exposing BJP and all central agencies,” party spokesperson Sanjay Tatkare was quoted as saying by NDTV.
