Kolkata: It’s after 392 days, singer-turned-politician Babul Supriyo is again a minister. On July 7, 2021, Babul Supriyo was dropped from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet. And on August 3, 2022, he has again been inducted into Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet. After being sworn in at the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday afternoon.
The singer first thanked CM Mamata Banerjee. At the same time, he reminded that on August 3, 2021, he announced that he would leave politics, but exactly after a year on August 3, 2022, he again took oath as a minister. Ballygunge MLA Babul Supriyo sees the matter as a coincidence.
Babul Supriya joined the Trinamool Congress in mid-September in 2021 and then stated that he did not join the Trinamool to sit on the fence rather he wanted to play in the first eleven.
By winning the Lok Sabha polls from Asansol, Supriyo got a place in Modi’s cabinet and remained there till 2019. But soon after joining the TMC, the political experts were certain that he will soon start gaining importance in the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress.
As he thanked the Chief Minister after taking the oath, Supriyo also mentioned Trinamool All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s name. Standing at the Raj Bhavan, he made it clear that without them, he would not have got the opportunity to serve the public again. “I was wronged on July 7 last year,” he said. “My good work was not rewarded… I believed that I worked for people So I had decided to leave politics,” he added.
People might say it was a demotion for him as from the pedestal of a Union Minister, he is now a state minister, and from an MP to an MLA. But the story would definitely have the punchline: Babul Supriyo rises from ashes to phoenix.
Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday expanded the state cabinet by drafting in nine new ministers.
Besides Babul Supriyo, the newcomers are Snehasis Chakraborty, Partha Bhowmick, Udayan Guha, Pradip Mazumder, Tajmul Hossain, Satyajit Barman, Birbaha Hansda and Biplab Roy Chowdhury.
Supriyo, Snehasis Chakraborty, Pradip Majumdar, Partha Bhowmick and Udayan Guha have been inducted as new cabinet ministers.
