Bhopal: The police here lodged a case against television actor Shweta Tiwari after she allegedly hurt religious sentiments via her remarks on God, said an official.
The case was registered against Shweta following Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra’s directions to the city police to probe her remark and submit a report.
It may be recalled that Shweta had made the controversial remark in Bhopal on Wednesday. She made the statement during the promotion of her web series Show Stopper, also starring Rohit Roy, Digangana Suryavanshi, and Sourabh Raaj Jain in lead roles.
Shweta’s video went viral on social media, in which she allegedly referred to God while speaking about her “bra”. She made the remark in the presence of her co-actors during a media interaction.
“Mere bra ki size bhagwan le rahe hai.” (God is taking the measurements for my bra),” she was heard in a clip obtained from the event.
“A case was registered against Shweta Tiwari today under IPC section 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs),” Shyamla Hills police station official was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Local citizen Sonu Prajapati lodged the complaint and accused the actor of hurting his religious sentiments via her comment.
“We will summon Shweta Tiwari to the police station either by sending her a notice by post or by sending a police team to her place to serve notice,” the police officer said.
“The offence is non-bailable, but as it attracts imprisonment of less than seven years, no arrest can be made as per the Supreme Court’s directive issued earlier,” the officer added.
